In early April 2008 I fished for bonefish on Grand Bahama Island with Grand Bahama Outfitters and it was a trip of a lifetime. GBO set me up in three different locations on the island—the north, the east, and the west sides—with different guides, and the angling was excellent. The bonefish here run larger than most places I've fished and there are plenty of them. We caught bones from 3 ½ to almost 6 pounds, and had shots at double digit fish as well. What a fishery! The guides and their boats were first class. The accommodations at the Sunrise Resort & Marina are excellent. The rooms are clean, cool, and comfortable; and the food is outstanding, particularly the fresh seafood. I believe the folks on this island are among the friendliest there are, and the staff here is no exception—they are wonderful. There are many neat things to do at Sunrise and in Freeport/Lucaya that have nothing to do with fishing, so non-anglers can have a grand time, too. Watersports, shopping, gambling, nature watching, and more await the visitors to this little part of paradise. Oh, and did I say how tasty the fresh seafood is and how very delicious the Bahamian Sands and Kalik beers are after a day on the azure flats?
