Useful fishing gear includes: Sunscreen, 2 hats (a hat clip may save your hat), Chapstick, lightweight rainsuit, 2 pair sunglasses (amber and dark), stripping glove, wading boots, 2 pair quick-drying long pants and long sleeve shirts, insect repellent, line clippers, reel covers and a chest or fanny pack for wading. A waterproof bag will prove useful keeping your items dry on the boat. Three or four piece fly rods and two-piece spinning rods are recommended for travel convenience. | ||||||||||||

Fly patterns should be selected in a broad range of colors such as cream, pink, brown, grey, chartruese. Shrimp and crab patterns, sizes 2-6, along with Crazy Charlies, Gotcha Bunnies and Clousers are good bets for bonefish and permit while Deceivers, Big Eye Tarpon Flies, and Clousers in sizes 1/0-4/0 work well for tarpon. Selections for all species should be a collection of weighted and unweighted to cover all water depth and current situations. For barracuda and shark make sure to have some titanium or some other sort of "toothy" critter tippet on hand. |
